Resumo: Heir of the questioner and mocking thought of french philosopher Voltaire, José Saramago, in his skeptical fiction, seeks to highlight the grotesque character of God s figure in society. Such action is intended to not only deconstruct the image of God, but seeks, in an intense meaningful dialogue with Christian literature of early and contemporary, found in an ethical man able to maintain social cohesion without the auspices of a transcendent entity. Therefore, it seems that in this "clash" between theology and literature, he gives to last one a unique role as enabler and transmitter of a new world s conception. Thus, within the field of Theopoetry studies, it tries to show how this appropriation of God by literature, not only deconstructs the official theological discourse, but creates a new, in this case, strictly skeptical.

Tal ação tem por fim não apenas desconstruir a imagem de Deus, mas busca, num intenso diálogo profícuo com a literatura cristã dos primórdios e da contemporaneidade, fundar no homem uma ética capaz de manter uma coesão social sem os auspícios de uma entidade transcendente. Para tanto, parece que nesse embate entre teologia e literatura, ele dá a esta um papel ímpar como possibilitadora e transmissora de uma nova concepção de mundo.
