This dissertation has as its object the Nossa Senhora do Desterro Parish, located in Campo Grande, municipality of Rio de Janeiro, and its performance and local perception through interviews and literature review. The present work is inserted in the current phase of the research of the Grupo de Estudos de História da Educação e Religião do Rio de Janeiro (GEHERRIO), which seeks to understand the presence of the Catholic Church in the culture and its marks left in the city of Rio de Janeiro, contributing to the construction of a collective memory. In this research I look forward to understand, through clues, signs, words and documentations, when and how the Nossa Senhora do Desterro Parish was created or implemented in that space. I also seek to understand, through disputed memories, what is the place of the Parish in the neighborhood and how the educational experiences and social practices of the church in Campo Grande were and are developed, and also, in what way these experiences and practices are perceived/remembered by the local population. The work is based on Bloch's (2001) conception of history and his vision of how the historian should research and broaden his sources, being able to appropriate knowledge from different disciplinary fields, in order to study his object from different angles, without, however, exhausting it. The concept of collective memory from Halbwachs (1986), a phenomenon that arises from social interaction, and of education of and through memory, from Almeida (1993), will aid in the analyses. The research practices involve documentary research in public and private archives, based on the expanded conception of what is considered a document and how to analyze it. The interviews will follow the proposals of Bourdieu (1993), which points to the establishment of a bond that provides a moment of connection that brings more freedom and dynamics in order to reduce the natural discomfort of an interview, without questioning or hierarchical positions, without judgments of values, seeking an interaction that reduces the distances between the interviewer and the interviewee in a situation of empathy.
