Resumo: This study aims to analyze the political propositions of CUT ― Central Única de Trabalhadores ― in the 80 s, as well as the memory constructed by this entity about the Brazilian labor movement. The analysis is carried out through observation of a practice that, accordingly to the entity members of CUT, would be more combative, innovative and supporter of the real interest of the working class. This led CUT to stand as a representative of new syndicalism opposing to what the entity denominates old syndicalism ― collaborationist, clientelist and not very combative. The dissertation uses the particular interpretations CUT has made over the construction of the ideological foundations of its own syndicalism and its syndical performance before the 1964 civil-military coup, seen here as an instrument of creation of its political identity and project-identity, as well as its political project. By using the theoretical references of the new political history, political culture , the relation between memory-identity and identity-project as well as the concept of memory, the study focus on investigating the way CUT─ since its rising and its early work ─ leaned on that disqualifying discourse about unionist leaders who actuated before 1964.

Isso se fará através da observação de uma prática, que segundos os membros da entidade, seria mais combativa, inovadora e defensora dos reais interesses da classe trabalhadora. O que a levou a se colocar como representante de um novo sindicalismo , contrapondo-se a o que a CUT denomina velho sindicalismo , colaboracionista, clientelista e pouco combativo. O trabalho se utiliza das leituras que a CUT faz ao longo da construção das bases ideológicas de seu sindicalismo e sobre a atuação sindical anterior ao golpe civil-militar de 1964, sendo este um instrumento de criação de sua identidade política e também um referencial crucial para o estabelecimento de suas estratégias e propostas de ação no campo sindical, além de seu projeto político.
