Expressão substantiva: iconicidade e argumentatividade

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the iconical-argumentative aspect of the substantive expression, from the perspective of Peirce s sign. Considered at the expressiveness level, the substantive expression is useful to argumentation because of its iconicity. Guided by this belief, the investigation is based on the criterion of quality and similarity that lay the foundation for iconicity signs and that arise positive and/or negative qualitative values from the texts, which showed to be responsible for the verisimilitude construction that orients argumentation through thematic isotopies. In texts of opinionative genres, a thematic isotopy defines an argumentative route. The analysis that were undertaken have proved to be productive at interpreting the selected opinion texts, revealing the strategy of the author to privilege the use of substantive expressions at the argumentation s construction. This analysis model has also proved to be a fruitful resource for the teaching of interpretation, showing the importance of the substantive expression, not only as an argumentative constituent, but also as an iconical sign to be considerated in this teaching.
