O ISOP e a psicologia do esporte no Rio de Janeiro: ampliando a história de uma prática

The Institute of Selection and Professional Orientation (ISOP), which operated from 1947 to 1990, in Rio de Janeiro, was an institution of extreme relevance in the Brazilian scenario. Although being a reference in psychotechnics in the country, it has never been mentioned in relation to Sports Psychology. The objective of this work is to show its insertions in the area, through the performance of its professionals, among them Athayde Ribeiro da Silva, Emílio Mira y López and Cecília Torreão Stramandinoli, in addition to their publications. A research was carried out at the Documentation Center of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), where ISOP functioned, and searches were made based on terms that related the institution to sports terms, followed by other terms, based on data that appeared in the searches with the documents found. Another source was Alice Mira's notebooks, a compilation of newspaper clippings from periodicals and magazines of her time that referred in some way to Emilio Mira y López, gathered in several volumes and digitalized by FGV. Cecília Stramandinoli's articles in scientific journals were obtained thanks to the digitalization of this material. The books and papers written by Athayde Ribeiro da Silva (alone and in "partnership" with Emilio Mira y López) were treated as primary sources and were carefully summarized for the analysis. We also resort to the memory of characters linked directly or indirectly to the story we are telling, conducting some interviews. The research results show the intense participation of ISOP in supporting the Brazilian football team in the 1960s, as well as the scientific production through its magazine and the intellectual production of some of its characters. These are facts that were not part of the history of Sport Psychology until now and that certainly have relevance in this context. Thus, we hope to shed new light on Sport Psychology and also on the three characters we have listed here, complementing the existing history, expanding the theoretical and practical references for a current, contextualized and diversified Sport Psychology
