Nós por Nós: sentidos de um discurso favelado

This dissertation intends to point out some of the meanings of a discourse used by some social movements in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, the "Nós por Nós" discourse. I reflect on the context in which the favelado stigma is constructed in the city of Rio de Janeiro, on which the relationships of the favela inhabitants and the rest of the city's population are elaborated. With this, I would like to point out an understanding of the fact that this expression is appropriated both as a discourse of mobilization and acceptance, when affirmed for other favelas, and as a discourse of resistance, when affirmed for people on the "left" (as the group of middle-class white people who position themselves politically on the left are called in the field). I discuss the meanings of discourse in relation to this group in the second chapter, linked to the dimension of survival, to the accusation of sectarianism and, finally, the demand for protagonism. I also discuss the relationship with academia and academic researchers, connected to the questioning of usefulness of the research and the demand for another way of researching. Methodologically, this dissertation draws on shared anthropology.
