The proposal of this dissertation is to analyze the works Campo geral and Uma estória de amor, by João Guimarães Rosa, from the perspective of the fictional creation in each novel and the anthropological necessity of fiction. In both works, imaginary spaces and fictional creation are preponderant themes and the stories narrated by the characters play an relevant role in the existential development of the protagonists. The main theoretical references will be the conceptual formulations proposed by Wolfgang Iser in The Fictive and the Imaginary, especially the articulation between real, fictitious and imaginary and the anthropological necessity to create fiction. In the study of the relation between fictive and imaginary, we also resort to Iser's Theory of Aesthetic Effect, developed in The Reading Act A Theory of Aesthetic Effect. The purpose is to investigate the construction of the imaginary of the characters, by means of the creation of stories throughout the narratives, analyzing the elements that demonstrate the relation among real, imaginary and fictional, in particular the acts of fictionalizing. Along the way, we intend to understand the ways in which the stories in Campo geral and Uma estória de amor are related.
