This current work intends to give rise to the reflection about the usage of racialist language in Brazil at the end of the 19th century. Thus, it has been made an analysis of the pages of the Revista Brasileira taking the periodical as a thermometer for the ways and the senses of the utilization of the concept of race, articles which proposed to assess the society and the nation under racialist arguments. Throughout the next pages, it has been taken an approach to the pieces of racialism by the mean of key concepts for understanding them, whichever they are of race or miscegenation for the interpretation of Brazil made by those intellectuals, plus that one of evolutionism as theoretical assumption for the reading of races as they intended to. Based on an interpretation of the intellectual history, it has been noticed that the ideas as phenomena are moved and shaped as the interests of who use them, therefore it has been supposed that the racialist Brazilian thinking does not hinge on European or North American racialism. Thus the suggested hypothesis in this work is that the uses of racialism engendered a philosophy of history which intended the interpretation of the national identity supported on the marks which the miscegenation left in the society, in the culture and in the touches between the temporal diversity of the races which composed the nation.
