A promoção da equidade na triagem de usuários da clínica ortodôntica da UFJF: elementos para uma política pública renovada de saúde bucal

Proceeding a historical analysis of buccal health in Brazil, the paradoxical position is clear: orthodontics and public buccal health. However, due to the great prevalence of the malocclusions; to the great epidemic transformation why raisin the buccal health, with the decline of the decays; and under the reference of the constitutional beginnings of integrality and equity, became necessary the public health system to incorporate the integrality and equity, became necessary the public health system to incorporate the orthodontics procedures in its services. The inclusion should happen, even obeying the limitations of financial stamp and human resources limitations, that will impose a previous selection of the patients, where only the most serious cases will be treated. One of the suggestions in this sense would be the use of the services rendered in the Public Universities, through forming human resources, and opening space for a parallel social policy. One example is the orthodontic clinic of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). The clinic is a regional pole of reference in attention to the buccal health, and its participation in the public actions of buccal health, could be improved. Objectives: The work studying the users' profile of the referred clinic, aimed to determine a selection system to prioritize the treatment for patients of smaller purchasing power, and with larger severity of malocclusion. As well as, to suggest a buccal health policy, that could use the clinics of public Universities in the preventive, interceptative and curative orthodontics to the population. Methodology: Statistical analyses were made about buccal, economical and psychosocial conditions of the patients in treatment in that orthodontic clinic, and was investigated the correlation among them. So, was turning evident, those users' profile. Conclusions: It was evidenced that the malocclusions has a bad influence in the people's quality of life, in the social, psychological and in the biological segment, what justifies the presence of those criteria, in the selection system. The orthodontics inclusion in the public service, demamd an effort that gathers: professionals of the area, teachers, managers andformation centers of human resources.
