This study assumes that the degree to which the father appreciates and encourages the child will depend on the culture in which he s inserted. And the father investment is characteristic of the species, with universal practices, but which are clearly social boundaries, since they re biologically culture. Starting from these assumptions, it turns out that the social, historical and economic demands require restructurings in the role held by each family member. Thus, through the socio-cultural approach, this study seeks to investigate and better understand what would be the different aspects involving the beliefs of men and women around carying and practices performed by the father. For instance, the aim of this study is to recast an instrument built on the Master's thesis called Beliefs Scale on fathers Practices (ECPP), to then proceed with its validation. The study s first stage consisted of literature review, followed by the analysis of the scale items by Psychology Area judges. After several redesigns, discussions, adjustments and corrections, the instrument passed trhough the third stage, validation. The sample consisted of 1140 people, of both genders, 18-60 years from all regions of Brazil. The data collection instrument was composed of Term of Consent, sociodemographic information and ECPP. In the qualitative phase, the scale has gone through several versions, expanded from 30 items to 138 after literature review and analysis tools interviews used during the Master s Course researcher, which had as its object the same constructo. Content validity of the operational version of ECPP with 104 items was obtained after analysis of the judges (experts in the field), and suitability analysis. In the quantitative phase the scale was applied in a pilot study with 120 participants, and refined after Student t test, which resulted in a scale with 70 items. And in its final phase, the ECPP was submitted to a factorial analysis which presented a framework for 4 factors, and 16 items that showed no permanence criteria. The scale reliability analysis using Cronbach's alpha revealed values of internal consistency coefficients suitable for a reliable and robust scale, considering the characteristics of the constructs studied. The ECPP in its final form resulted in a scale with 54 items and four factors: social, primary care, physical care and cognitive and normative aspects. According to the results obtained by the psychometric construct validity analysis, it was concluded that the ECPP is consistent and valid scale for measuring beliefs about parental practices. It is expected that the validation of ECPP may be useful in understanding the social role of the father in the present and assist in developing new research on the area
