Resumo: This study describes the process of maternal mourning among bereaved Brazilian women through sharing in the clinic with therapeutic groups. To this end, the analysis brings historical reflections and current interpretations on the theme addressing the deal with the losses of close entities, retrospectives of the theories dictated by science through medical discourses and diagnostic manuals and, finally, the perception of the phenomenon as it is shown in its specificities through the reports of the experiences of the mothers of the Semnome Mothers Group. The research is justified, following the premises of the phenomenological-hermeneutic approach and its developments supporting the thesis that mourning is not of the order of the pathological, but of existential suffering and proposing a new therapeutic dynamic where the individual clinic with group meetings are simultaneously merged.

Com esse intuito, a análise traz reflexões históricas e interpretações atuais sobre o tema, abordando a lida com as perdas de entes próximos, retrospectivas das teorias ditadas pela ciência, através dos discursos médicos e dos manuais diagnósticos, e, finalmente, a percepção do fenômeno tal como ele se mostra em suas especificidades, mediante relatos de experiências das mães do Grupo Mães Semnome.
