Acidentes com exposição a material biológico envolvendo estudantes e residentes de medicina: o que aprendemos para ensinar?

Available data in the literature indicate that HIV, HBV HCV are among the three main pathogens of occupational transmission among health professionals. This dissertation is the result of a quantitative and qualitative research based on the application of a questionnaire at the University Hospital Pedro Ernesto (HUPE), among medical students (interns of the 5th and 6th year), and resident physicians with the objective of identifying in this group the occurrence of accidents with exposure to biological material, the group's knowledge about this type of accident, biosafety, biological risk, behavior in the prevention, in the event of an accident and in the notification of the same. The analysis of the results allows to observe that it is high index that students who are exposed to situations with risk of transmission of HIV, HBV and HCV and do not recognize these situations as an accident with exposure to biological material, which increases their risk of contamination. Still on the results it is possible to observe the diversity of the students' training about theoretical concepts focused on work safety analyzed here. Other important results were the finding of low demand for specific post-accident care and low reporting and their reasons. It concludes by the importance of the teaching of concepts that lead to the realization of the importance of work and safe behavior, from graduation, to the formation of professionals aware of their vulnerability and with an active and proactive stance in individual and collective protection.
