The political-religious relations undertaken by a group of relatives of victims of violence as a way to express their grief are described in this thesis in order to demonstrate how they relate to the management of life and death in the Rio de Janeiro metropolis. The funeral mass of the boy João Hélio represents a crucial point in the narratives of families who each experienced different situations trying to seek justice for the death of their sons and daughters. At first they spent their time sharing their stories and denouncing these crimes which then led them to create projects for building a culture of peace, in a spiritist sense. The inclusion of this group in spiritual networks, as a mediator between the spiritual and secular spheres, enabled the sharing of works and missions between parents and children in these different realms. Projects authored by the mediums Rogério Leite and Marli Mansini as well as others along with the life trajectory of relatives of victims of urban violence, contributed to the creation of a social project focused on overcoming pain and feelings of revenge through the performance of charity work and the arrangement and spread of automatic writing sessions. Through the experience of different situations and processes, these fathers and mothers modified their political actions once tied to such statements as taking the law into one s own hands to the development of spiritually focused projects and the promotion of pacified subjectivities. This thesis aims to describe the experiences and processes of this collective formed by relatives of victims, with their formation and connections with governmental political-religious projects towards building a culture of peace.
