The newspaper The Family: Literary Journal Dedicated to the Education of the Mother of Family, owned by the writer, poetess and teacher Josephina Álvares de Azevedo, first produced and published in 1888 in the city of São Paulo and transferred in 1889 to Corte, is a weekly printed whose collection found in the National Library (BN), extends until 1894, years of our temporal cut. Of great circulation in the most diverse provinces of Brazil at the end of the nineteenth century, the journal covers themes such as the emancipation of women, autonomy, women's votes, theater and literature. We have selected this journal and the experience of its editor as a resource for thinking about the relations between knowledge, power and subjectivity in Education.In this sense, this master's research in the History of Education, to a certain extent, contrasts archeology and the ethics of self-care, whose theoretical-methodological contribution is made from Foucault's propositions, postulations and studies. Our objective is to examine the processes of production, distribution and speeches present in the printed matter, as well as to problematize its constitution as object and documentary source, paying attention to the cover, layout, advertisement, editorial line, collaborators and collaborators, genre, print run and advertising. In addition to attending also the dialogues with other newspapers. Concerning the ethics of self-care, this research aims to publish, together with the generation and circulation of a Family, especially of its copywriter. We also try to gather in the verve of poetry, from his play The Female Vote, and his books, indications of the relation of power, saber intrinsic to his time, which can contribute to the understanding of the thought about others: non-reader and those who, in some way, may have been left out of such publications.
