Resumo: | The aim of this Thesis was to obtain a cutting fluid based on cottonseed oil, environmentally friendly and with the same characteristics of a commercial cutting fluid. First, the cottonseed oil was epoxidized using a cationic resin VPOC 1800, and modified biochar, derived from the residual pie jatropha. The reaction efficiency was monitored by measuring the iodine value and by 1 H NMR. After the epoxidation reaction, the hydroxylated epoxidized oil was VPOC 1800 using the resin as catalyst. The reactions were followed by 1H NMR. Yields were observed 75 and 55% for epoxidation and hydroxylation reactions, respectively. The produced fluids, and hydroxylated epoxidized fluid fluid was analyzed by TGA in order to check the degradation temperature. These materials had higher heat resistance (340 °C) compared with the commercial fluid (160 °C). The rheology of the hydroxylated epoxidized and fluids was studied and compared with the cotton seed oil without modification and a commercial fluid. All showed Newtonian behavior in the studied temperature ranges. Furthermore, in the evaluation of wear of the drill bits in drilling test temperature measurement at the drill tip, over the 50 holes indicated that all fluids have the capacity to cool the part, but with a major difference. The epoxidized fluids, hydroxy and cottonseed oil did not cause evaporation and / or fog when these fluids were working, unlike the commercial fluid evaporated during the whole test, independent of the drill tip temperature. The transesterification reactions of epoxidized and hydroxylated fluids were efficient and made these fluids into suitable biofuels for energy applications. The success of transesterification of cutting fluids showed the possibility of closing of the product use cycle, as a renewable source was used to obtain a product with reduced production of waste and recovery |

Made available in DSpace on 2021-01-07T18:58:39Z (GMT).
