Tentativas de formação de um campo literário de pequenas editoras: tramas e casos

The editorial production of small independent publishers created by writers who publish on their own, and also launch works by their peers, acting in a literary circuit that promotes a range of possibilities from initiatives that cross and strengthen themselves in the production chain of the book currently, is the subject of this dissertation, that supports itself on the case histories about beginner writers and small publishing enterprises in Rio de Janeiro city. Different stances taken towards publishing, either by traditional publishing or self-publishing enterprises offer evidence of a paradox related to the directions that each producer of literary output faces to legitimize himself as a culture producer. Understanding that each of the three publishing experiences studied not only strives at self-reproduction, but also works into structures located in dimensions that aspire at social recognition, the profiles of their production activities respond to different – even conflicting - interests. Diverse assignments related to the position of writer, editor and publisher were also analyzed and compared to the conventional classifications used by the traditional agencies responsive for the raw statistical data presented that open in the analysis of the case studies. We used a qualitative approach and methodology for this analysis, through a field research in which we approached our research object occurred during two years (2014 -2015).
