Resumo: The object of this study deals with the perception that men with venous ulcers have about the world of work. The desire to investigate this object emerged from contact with clients during the course of specialization and preceptorship of Nursing Specialization in Stomatherapy by the Nursing Faculty of the State University of Rio de Janeiro, observing that most men with venous ulcers were in the production phase and the potential to work. The aim of this study is to analyzing the implications for the maintenance of men with venous ulcers in the workplace. The specific objectives are: (i) describing the socio-demographic characteristics of men with venous ulcers; (ii) identifying the perception of men with venous ulcers on the world of work; and (iii) analyzing the limitations of men with venous ulcers to remain in the workplace. For this research, we chose the qualitative approach, of descriptive and exploratory character. The scenarios of the study were two dressing of clinics of a general hospital of great size and a polyclinic, both from the public service and located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Participants were 22 men. We used a semi-structured interview for data collection that took place between April and July 2015. For the treatment of the data there was performed the Thematic Content Analysis. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee and filed with paragraph 993,194. In the first category, respondents reported physical and psychosocial effects arising from the existence of the injury. In the second, the meaning of work is seized, for the participants, the strategies used to remain working and the fear of missing work for monitoring the health service. In the third, respondents reported the repercussions of ulcer in labor relations, the difficulties in sustaining the benefit of the sickness - causing some remain working informally - and the drawbacks of constant visits to the INSS. In the fourth category, finally, we analyzed the perception of respondents in relation to the health service attendances, the delay in getting an assessment of the expert and the distance between home / work and specialized health service. We conclude that (i) the network service should facilitate access to people in order to reduce the waiting time for a proper assessment, and (ii) nursing professionals should promote an evidence-based care and act the way prevent recurrence of the injury. Also it is relevant that professionals develop treatment protocols, considering gender issues and the work activities of the male population. It is recommended that the professionals have a look at the specificity of the male and which broaden the discussion forums on workers' health in the training of nursing.

Submitted by Boris Flegr (boris@uerj.br) on 2021-01-06T14:35:11Z No. of bitstreams: 1 ARQUIVO FINAL_PATRICIA ALVES DOS SANTOS SILVA_ENF_MESTRADO.pdf: 1954615 bytes, checksum: 76ff0d9e10c176bdd528ba6718979c4a (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-01-06T14:35:11Z (GMT).
