Travestilidade, transexualidade e interseccionalidade: o gênero, cor e classe como questões de saúde

Objective: to analyze the effects of the intersection of discrimination (by race/ethnicity, class and gender) on self-rated health and estimate the prevalence and typification of discrimination experienced by transvestites and transgender women in Rio de Janeiro. Method: cross-sectional study of the analysis of an observational study entitled “EVAS: Study on Violence and Health Self-Assessment of Transvestites and Transsexual Women in Rio De Janeiro”. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with 139 women who identified themselves as transvestites, transgender or transsexual in a structured and multidimensional form with responses in multiple options, during July 2019 to August 2020, being interrupted due to COVID19 pandemic. The Chi-square hypothesis and logistic regression model tests were performed. Results demonstrate the prevalence of positive self-rated health (73.19%), where 26.81% considered it poor or fair. The prevalence of feeling healthy was 84.89% (95%CI = 1.47-10.06; p: 0.006) where approximately 52% of the interviewees claimed to have better health when comparing them with other people of the same age (95%CI = 3.08 – 48.20; p<0.05), only 8.76% said they had worse health compared. Conclusion: The global prevalence of good, very good and excellent self-rated health was prevalent, being very close to the general Brazilian population, where we observed that this finding extends to transsexual populations also from other territories and countries. It is necessary to include gender diversity in censuses as well as the need for more epidemiological research on this population.
