The purpose of this dissertation is to identify the relation between the capitalist society and the academic production in education, based on the concept of alienation. To fulfill the proposed purpose, was considered the form by which education, and, more specifically, the post-graduation academic production stands before the demands of the society organized by the capital. This is a bibliographic research, whose theoretical ground is the Marxist trend oh thought, of ontological orientation, as it presents arguments to discuss, critically, the production of knowledge. The bibliography includes analyses of the marketing of human life in the capitalist modern societies, and allows us to rethink the presence of mercantile values in the academic productions policy, in the field of educational knowledge. Thence, the core of this dissertation presents some of the predicaments in the guidelines that portray the scientific production under the light of merchandise production, which guides the development of educational research in the modern society, as well as it discusses aspects that require critical and rigorous attention in regards to the mercantile trend that defines the investigative production in the area of education. However, this dissertation not only discusses some off the limitations and misunderstandings of the mercantile point of view, which stimulates the investigative practice in education, but, most importantly, it points out the theoretical-methodological contribuitions of the ontological Marxism to the understanding and the analysis of social realities, and of social practices and instituitions
