Resumo: The state of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) is part of the Atlantic Forest biome, and still houses a high vertebrate richness, including endangered and endemic species. Understanding how different organisms are affected by anthropogenic environmental changes is an important tool for their conservation. Amphibians and reptiles are models for studies and conservation actions, being used as potential indicators of environmental quality. Herpetofauna in RJ is represented by 201 species of amphibians and 132 species of reptiles. The effects caused by the fragmentation and modification of natural areas have been increasingly intense, and often irreversible, altering ecological interactions, structures of populations and communities and even resulting in extinction processes. The present study aimed to perform the first inventory of herpetofauna from the Vital Brazil Farm, located in the city of Cachoeiras de Macacu, Metropolitan Region of the state of Rio de Janeiro and to evaluate these taxocenoses by ecological parameters, their distributions by different environments and stages of vegetation cover. As methodology were applied time-limited visual search and traps of interception and fall (pitfall traps). Additionally we incorporated records of occasional meetings, collection by third parties and photographic. The herpetological collections of the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro and the Vital Brazil Institute were also consulted. During the campaigns, between September 2017 and August 2018, 19 species of anuran amphibians belonging to three families were registered. The Hylidae was the most representative with 13 species, followed by Leptodactylidae, with four and Bufonidae with two species. For reptiles 25 species were recorded, 18 of snakes, Dipsadidae (n = 9), Colubridae (n = 5), Boidae (n = 2), Elapidae (n = 1) and Viperidae (n = 1) and seven of lizards Teidae (n = 2), Anguidae, Gekkonidae, Leiosauridae, Phyllodactylidae, Tropiduridae (with n = 1 each). Among the records, 11 species of anuran amphibians and six species of reptiles are recognized as endemic to the Atlantic Forest and a species of exotic lizard (Hemidactylus mabouia) was recorded. The most species rich environment was the anthropic field and the highest similarity was between the environments of secondary forest. When analyzed, the herpetofauna taxocenoses of the studied region indicated to present more general habits and less specialists.

When analyzed, the herpetofauna taxocenoses of the studied region indicated to present more general habits and less specialists.O estado do Rio de Janeiro (RJ) encontra-se inserido no bioma Mata Atlântica, e ainda abriga uma elevada riqueza de vertebrados, incluindo espécies ameaçadas e endêmicas. Submitted by Antônio Luiz CEH/D (zergelprimo@yahoo.com.br) on 2022-11-29T19:35:26Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertação - Guilherme Jones Souza - 2019.
