Resumo: | The following paper intends to study the novel The Double, by José Saramago, considering some elements that bring it closer and set it apart from the already existent approach about the double, one of the main themes used in literature. In order to enrich the dissertation, the paper will emphasize on some psychologists, sociologists and also philosophers that will be used not to be deeply understood, however, as a tool so the novel written by José Saramago can be better analysed according to the theories that Deleuze, Bauman Freud and Rank, to name a few, came up with. The research will also focus on the consolidation of both José Saramago as a famous writer and his political views, and the novel as a major literary genre. Besides, there will also be a part of the research focused on some elements in regards of the biography of the only writer who won the literature Nobel Prize |

Besides, there will also be a part of the research focused on some elements in regards of the biography of the only writer who won the literature Nobel PrizeO presente trabalho tem como objetivo fazer uma análise do romance O homem duplicado, de José Saramago, levando em consideração certos elementos que o aproximem e distanciem da abordagem já consolidada do fenômeno do duplo, que é um dos principais temas trabalhados na literatura. Para que possamos enriquecer a dissertação, ela se debruçará em textos de psicólogos, sociólogos e filósofos, tendo como pretensão que eles não sejam desdobrados, porém, usados como uma ferramenta de suporte para que o romance escrito por José Saramago possa ser analisado com mais propriedade à luz das teorias propostas por Deleuze, Bauman, Freud e Rank, entre outros autores. A pesquisa também dedicará atenção especial à caminhada literária e política de José Saramago e à consolidação do romance enquanto gênero literário dominante.
