The aim of this work is to study the relations of identity and belonging of northeastern migrants in Duque de Caxias municipality. Therefore, the Caxias street market is used as a parameter to analyze the constitution of these relations alongside the twentieth century. In this way, this study seeks to investigate the visions about northeastern populations inside the municipality under different scopes, not only internal (referring to city habitants) but also external ones (referring to observation outside the city, especially in Rio de Janeiro State). The interviews of migrants, residents and street market traders are major analysis instruments to comprehend the constituted imaginary concerning northeastern population in Duque de Caxias. Dimensioning the construction of their identity and belonging relations. The newspapers will be another source to analyze these relations. In sum, it is a study about the construction of northeastern people social image in Duque de Caxias and their relations in Caxias street market. In other words, to understand how it is constructed in the municipality the comprehension that Brazilian northeastern retreatants formed the local area and consolidate theirselves from their memory, identity and belonging relations. Thus, it is based on the premise that in Duque de Caxias were constructed new forms of living and hybrid culture relations, including municipal population and the relation with migrants from other Brazilian regions, during twentieth century. The Caxias street market is just the representation of these relations, having in this interior, elements of this cultural syncretism starting from the memory and belonging exercises strengthening, expressed on life experiences similar to migration.
