Reatualização conservadora: o conservadorismo contemporâneo no serviço social e a disputa por hegemonia no Brasil na atualidade

This thesis proposes to make an analysis of contemporary conservative thinking, with the objective of understanding the conservatism expressions in Brazilian Social Work in contemporary times. The analysis contained in this work has as a reference the debate within the Marxist tradition, which considers conservative thinking as an expression of the class struggle representing the interests of the dominant classes. To this end, from a methodological point of view, we decided to conduct a documentary research based on the analysis of three Facebook pages that have the purpose of discussing Social Work beyond what has been built by the so-called “hegemonic thinking”, which are “Libertarian Social Work”, “Conservative Social Work” and “Social Work and Pluralism”. By understanding the profession inserted in the dynamics of social relations, we considered necessary, at first, to understand the origin of conservative thought, as well as the currents of contemporary conservative thought that have an impact in Brazil. Subsequently, we made an analysis of some exponents of classical conservative thought in Brazil, as well as of some contemporary authors, considering the socio-historical formation of the country. In this context the analysis of the profession was thought in an attempt to bring elements of its genesis to contemporary times, but giving centrality to the analyses on the renewal process of the Brazilian Social Work. Finally, we observed through the analysis of the pages studied, that the conservative movements currently present in the profession have some features that guarantee them unity, which incorporate elements from the “conservative modernization” and “renewal of conservatism” strands of the renewal process of the Brazilian Social Work.
