This thesis aims at following the course of the creation, implantation and changes, throughout the historical process of the Agricultural Learning of Barbacena, since its beginning, in 1910, until the era of President Getulio Vargas, 1933. As a preliminary and background, initiatives of Brazil which, pressed by the lack of skilled labour to supply the farms after the abolition of slavery, searches for knowledge and experience in other countries in the area of agricultural education. With the advent of the Republic, noticed a kind of a deflection on the part of the Brazilian State to take care of the public elementary schools in order to decrease the percentage of the illiterate population and to introduce the agricultural teaching, in view to the crisis that had arisen in the agricultural sector. It is in this context that the Agricultural Learning appeared. The Agricultural Learning of Barbacena was created in 1910. With focus on that Institution, one must take into consideration: the role of politician leaderships of Minas Gerais bringing to Barbacena the first Agricultural Learning of the State; the changes processed by that School underwent from its beginning until Getulio s era when it was transformed into Agricultural School; the method of teaching, mainly theoretical-practical learning; the integration between the learning and its environment; the administration system that included the participation of the students in the profits; the didactic-pedagogical struture and the boarding school regime. This reaserch puts in relief the work of its first Director, Diaulas Abreu, in charge for the Institution for 45 years. As research methodological, the edicts related to the creation of the Learning are analysed as well as the statutes, the reports, the data of the files of the Institution and the exchange of correspondence between the board and the Government. The research concludes in President Getulio Vargas era, after the Revolution of 1930.
