This thesis fits the field of psychology and, more precisely, of social psychology, using the theoretical framework of Social Thought. The general objective is to characterize the Social Thought of psychologists graduated from the State University of Rio de Janeiro and residents of the State of Rio de Janeiro about the psychologist's profession. The research is organized based on three related studies in order to achieve the general objective of the thesis. The first study deals with the investigation of the psychologist's social thinking about his professional career taking into account social stratification. The objective was to investigate the psychologists' thinking about their professional career from the cultural and financial capitals in order to compare the low and high capital groups. For that, 117 participants trained in the psychology course at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) answered an online questionnaire composed of free evocations, Likert scale, semantic differential scale and open and closed questions. Data analysis was done through prototypical analysis, similarity analysis and Student's t test. The results show a positive evaluation on the part of psychologists regarding their professional career and the profession is seen as a profession that brings other gains besides money, emphasizing, mainly, the satisfaction of the activity performed. In addition, the position of groups with more and less cultural and financial capital, did not cause differentiation in the pattern of responses. The second study is exploratory and aimed to verify the thinking of people in general about psychologists according to the proximity that one has to the professional. 25 participants were interviewed from a structured script and, subsequently, a content analysis of the interviews was made. The results mix positive and negative aspects of both the profession and the professional. The third study investigates the psychologist's stereotype from four subdivisions: physical, mental characteristics, personality traits and physical behaviors. It comprises 340 participants divided into: 141 who had no professional contact with a psychologist and 199 who had professional contact with a psychologist. In addition, there is still a subdivision according to the contact specification: participants who had contact through the work environment, participants who had contact through therapy and who had no professional contact with a psychologist. The instrument was a questionnaire including Likert's Scale of Items, Semantic Differential Scale, open and closed questions. The analysis was done by the Student's t test and by the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results show significant differences between the groups analyzed, but in general psychologists are associated with the political spectrum of the left and middle class in addition to the physical stereotype associated with the female sex.
