Resumo: The present study has as general objective to analyze the social representation of HIV/Aids second members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The specific goals are: To identify the constitutive contents of the social presentation of HIV/Aids second members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church; Describe the contents and its internal organization, showing the structure of the representation based on the assumptions of the Central Core Theory; Discuss the possible central contents, which give meaning to the representation, from the prototypical analysis and the similarity analysis; To relate the social representation of HIV/Aids constituted by Church members with the precepts and guidelines of the Seventh-day Adventist religion. It is about a descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, guided by the Theory of Social Representations in its structural approach, carried out in Seventh-day Adventist churches in the district of Madureira in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Seventy-eight people, members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, participated in the study. On the collected Data, using the technique of free word evocation to the inducing term HIV/Aids, four houses were generated after processing the corpus by the EVOC 2005 software; due to their high frequency, "death" and "disease" were hypothetically considered as central. On the other hand, the similarity analysis by co-occurrence confirmed this hypothesis and reaffirmed the word "disease" as central. The representation contemplates the three essential dimensions described by Serge Moscovici. The dimension of information or knowledge is the most expressive between the representational contents, evidencing concepts, characteristics of the illness, information about the modes of transmission, and the care to avoid infection by the virus. The affective-attitudinal dimension presents the group's position concerning the disease or its consequences, being of an emotional nature and presented since the beginning of the epidemic in different social groups, such as fear, sadness, and suffering. The imagery dimension is given in the words cure and death. The data collection and analysis method showed that the group conceives the object from two nuclei of meaning, which establish coherent relationships, showing that Aids means disease and death, with their respective associated contents. For more objectivity, it is possible to say that Aids is a disease, qualified as incurable for the Adventists participating in the study, whose contamination occurs through sex, blood, and drugs and can be avoided by preventive measures. However, it still causes fear and death, but there is the hope of a cure. Death, in his turn, as a generator of meaning, emanates feelings of pain, sadness, suffering, and prejudice. The cocktail, as is the treatment with the association of several drugs, is the only weapon to fight it. It is concluded that there is coherence in the way the group thinks about Aids, similar to representations of other social groups, especially individuals who do not live with the virus and the disease and health professionals.

Submitted by Pedro CB/B (pedrocmaf@gmail.com) on 2023-02-08T17:09:36Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertação - Gilmar Junker Duarte - 2022 - Completo.pdf: 1546200 bytes, checksum: e023268b749ad280e2231a05e585e28c (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2023-02-08T17:09:36Z (GMT).
