It is possible to affirm that the language is one of the main cultural marks of a country and that it defines, even, its identity. It is worth adding, however, that one of the main characteristics of a language is that it is a living organism, in constant renewal, at the service of the individuals who use it for communication; thus, as society evolves and communicative needs change, language is also modified and renewed. This research intends, therefore, to observe the lexical renewal of Portuguese based on neologisms found in vehicles of the contemporary printed media. It is mainly intended to describe and analyze the process of creating new lexical items under the linguistic-discursive aspect. This means understanding the morphological rules the word-forming processes used in constructing terms, but also reflecting on the production situation as an act of language. Thus, examining and describing the verbal configuration presented in each of the selected neologisms is as important here as elucidating the circumstances involved in the elaboration of each act of language, seeking to reconstruct the discursive context and determine the conditions of production and reception of new lexical items
