This study proposes to analyze the concept of memory per se, and its divisions into collective and individual memory, in the narrative of In Your Hands (1997), by the Portuguese writer Inês Pedrosa. To this end, it is necessary to understand the memorial genre and its correlation with the intimate report, through the narratives of three women from the same family, who expose their lives and the events that occur there in, their relationships with the environment and their wills, through the diary, photo album and letter, respectively. It is from this context, of the centrality of the issue of memory for Portuguese studies, that the present work starts, proposing to recognize that, together with intimate writing, memory has a direct influence on literary matters. For this, concepts related to new psychology studies will be used, such as Hirst, Yamashiro & Coman (2018) and Halbwachs (1990), which explore the importance of collective memory in events that occur throughout life and that end up affecting the memory of individuals . Studies by Le Goff (2013), Ricœur (2007), Lejeune (2014), Dal Farra (2013), Gagnebin (2009), Foucault (1992), Cabecinhas & Feijó (2010) and others will also be applied with regard to the mnemonic concept and the writings of intimacy.
