Resumo: | Infections caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) are major public health problem. The study aimed to detect HBsAg, anti-HBc, anti-HBs and anti-HCV among health professionals and users of SUS in the city of Resende / RJ and describe the sociodemographic profile and exposure history. We evaluated 585 samples between May and June 2014 and obtained the Information System data for Notifiable Diseases (SINAN). Samples were tested in duplicate. The data generated were organized into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and analyzed with Epi Info for descriptive statistics, chi-square test and multivariate analysis. The predominant age range observed was 30-44 years (N = 277; 47.3%), and 54.87% (N = 321) were female and the majority of participants (N = 271; 46.32 %) self declared skin color / white ethnicity. Married participants were N = 262 (44.78%), most had high school (N = 247; 42.22%) and have other professions (N = 385; 65.81%) since health professionals were N = 174 totaling 29.74% of the study participants. Only 04 participants were positive for anti-HCV test, and 18 were positive for anti-HBc antibodies. Of these, 15 participants were reactive for anti-HBs antibodies. In 68.8% of health professionals have positive anti-HBs and 63.9% of participants declared to have vaccination against hepatitis B. The prevalence of HCV 0.68% and 3.08% of anti-HBc are below the detected in the Southeast in the last census in the capital of Brazil. There was a reduced acceptance of health professionals (22.74%) to the testing of this research, despite knowledge of the risk of infection inherent to occupational exposure. The study points out then that the confrontation Hepatitis B and C must be achieved by preventive educational actions for these health professionals and beautification and hygiene |

The study points out then that the confrontation Hepatitis B and C must be achieved by preventive educational actions for these health professionals and beautification and hygieneAs infecções causadas pelo vírus da hepatite B (HBV) e pelo vírus da hepatite C (HCV) constituem grave problema de saúde pública. Made available in DSpace on 2021-01-07T18:31:48Z (GMT).
