Resumo: The evaluation of quality of life through questionnaires and scales has been frequently used in the healthcare area to inform the evolution of the patient and to decide on the most appropriate treatment. Most of the quality of life assessment and orthopedic assessment instruments were developed in English. For those instruments to be used in a different language and culture of the country where they were developed it is necessary to follow some steps for their translation, cultural adaptation and validation regarding the maintenance of the characteristics of the original instrument. The Hip Outcome Score (HOS) is an instrument capable of evaluating physically active patients with hip diseases, without severe degenerative changes. It is a condition that other hip assessment instruments are not able to perform with the same specificity. The stages of translation and cultural adaptation of this questionnaire into the Brazilian Portuguese language have already been carried out. The objective of this study was to validate the Brazilian version of the HOS questionnaire in a group of physically active patients with a medical diagnosis of femoroacetabular impingement or greater trochanteric pain syndrome. Seventy patients were selected from both genders and aged between 19 and 70 years old. The domains studied for the validation process were: reliability and validity. These domains were normalized by a group of researchers who developed COSMIN (COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments). The following questionnaires were applied to the validation process: the Brazilian version of the Hip Outcome Score; the Brazilian validated versions of the Nonarthritic Hip Score (NAHS) and of the 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12). The reliability was calculated by internal consistency and intra-rater test-retest reliability psychometric properties, according to Cronbach's alpha statistical tests (Cronbach α > 0.9) and the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC > 0.9), respectively. Validity was verified by construct validity and content validity psychometric properties. The construct validity was calculated by convergent (r > 0.7) and divergent (r < 0.4) validity, according to the Pearson correlation coefficient. The content validity was analyzed by the evidence of questionnaires with floor effect and/or ceiling effect, which did not occur. The psychometric properties of reliability and validity demonstrated excellent results. Additional studies are underway to evaluate the responsiveness of the Brazilian version of the HOS. The validation process of the Brazilian version of the Hip Outcome Score questionnaire has been successfully performed. This instrument is now valid and reliable for the Brazilian Portuguese language. Thus, this will provide Brazilian doctors and healthcare professionals an instrument capable of evaluating physically active patients with hip diseases without severe degenerative changes.

This instrument is now valid and reliable for the Brazilian Portuguese language. Thus, this will provide Brazilian doctors and healthcare professionals an instrument capable of evaluating physically active patients with hip diseases without severe degenerative changes. Submitted by Boris Flegr (boris@uerj.br) on 2021-01-05T19:42:27Z No. of bitstreams: 1 TESE_FINAL_PUBLICADA_Rafaela_Maria_de_Paula_Costa.pdf: 1977030 bytes, checksum: ceef8c5f00fbd9195d3ad1d97cacf42d (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-01-05T19:42:27Z (GMT).
