This dissertation is the result of the proposal launched by Programa de mestrado profissionalizante em Letras (Profletras), so that we could identify a situation- problem in our classroom and, from that, elaborate strategies for a theoretically based intervention. Having said that, I have chosen as situation-problem the difficulty that students from the school in which I work have in the process of alphabetization. To confront this situation, I first analyzed the literature and reviewed studies related to alphabetization, trying to understand what has been done and how the teaching of reading and writing in the initial cycle of basic education has been done. The literature review has allowed me to reflect on the matter and draw a didactic proposal that sets an attempt to reinvent alphabetization in my classroom and thus contributes to the alphabetization and literacy of my students, residents in the slum Vila Ipiranga, in Niterói, by means of a quality education. Therefore, in this work I report my motivations for the development of this research, highlight the importance of the teacher s prominence, and explain a brief review of some of the studies related to alphabetization and literacy that served as a background for the construction of the didactic proposal. The set of educational activities presented here arouse from the observation of the need for close relations between theory and practice in teaching, so to ensure the effectiveness of alphabetization and literacy of the students in a public school. Throughout the presentation of didactic proposal developed, wich matches a diversity of activities of systematization of the alphabetic writing system and literacy events developed in partnership with the students, I recall some dialogues that have taken place one another during its implementation. Finally, I build some reflections about the results of the pedagogic work carried out.
