Resumo: This work aims to contribute to studies about safety at sporting events. Specifically observing the dynamics of the Specialized Policing Battalion in Stadiums (BEPE), a unit linked to the Military Police Corporation of the state of Rio de Janeiro. They are discussed on the theme of violence and public security. The historical context for the foundation of the unit and its inspiration in community policing are approached, as well as the political scenario that involves it. The duties of the service, the organizational structure, the profile of the policemen in this battalion, the relationship of the staff with the other policemen of the military police are contents exposed throughout this dissertation; bringing light to this unit that is often not observed in work on policing or in work on violence and security in sports. Analyzed in which points the BEPE's performance is similar or different with the Military Police's performance in Rio de Janeiro, based on the analysis of documents, fieldwork and interviews with police officers, unit commanders and with former commanders of the Military Police.

São discorridas as questões sobre a temática da violência e segurança pública, o contexto histórico para a fundação da Unidade e sua inspiração em um policiamento comunitário. É abordado como funciona o cenário político que a envolve, as atribuições do serviço, a estrutura organizacional, o perfil dos policiais desta unidade, a relação do efetivo para com os outros policiais da Polícia Militar. Os conteúdos serão expostos ao longo desta dissertação que traz a luz à unidade questões que muitas vezes não são abordadas nos trabalhos sobre policiamento, violência e segurança nos esportes.
