Patologias da beleza: a inconsistência da identificação paterna na histeria e as consequências para a imagem do corpo

This thesis proposes to investigate changes in body image in search of an ideal of beauty that we call beauty pathologies. Under this designation we approach the anorexies and excesses of aesthetic surgeries we investigated in the hysterical structure. The research was initiated by the conceptualization of body image in psychoanalysis, emphasizing the need for the Other in this construction. Subsequently, we approach the current aspects regarding the search for beauty, the influence of culture on body shape and beauty as consumption and investment from the neoliberal ideals of our time. Our hypothesis about the etiology of beauty pathologies indicates an inconsistency. from the paternal identification that gives rise to the ideal of self, the armor of love of the father in hysteria and the emergence of symptomatic resources through the imagination. To address this proposal, we will highlight three research axes: 1) the fragility of identification with the father, which causes problems in the constitution of the ideal of the self, which compromises the structuring of the body image and stability in hysteria; 2) the weakness of identification to the father that promotes neurotic triggers through the clinical category of hysterical follies; 3) the fragility of identifying the father as armor in hysteria and the symptomatic solutions with the body image.
