The Costa Azul region of Rio de Janeiro State - Brazil, between the cities Niterói and Armação de Búzios, is located in the East Southeast Brazilian coast that has a singular change marked by a variation in the orientation of the coast line from N-S to E-W. This change coincides with a structural high, the Cabo Frio High (CFH), which separate two economically important sedimentary basins, named Campos and Santos. The alteration in the coast line is a result of variation in the active stress field during the Eocretaceous opening of South Atlantic Ocean. Brittle structures generated before and after Cretaceus rift has been reactivated over geological time. This thesis aims to compare brittle deformation at Cabo Frio and Oriental tectonic terrains, using structural data of fieldwork and DEM-derived lineaments extracted from SRTM (shuttle radar topography mission) images as tools for characterizing and morphostructural compartmentalizing. Seven fault sets were characterized by their geometry, kinematics and dynamics, and statistical and morphological expressions for each fault group were verified. NE-SW to ENE-WSW fault sets are the most frequent group of structures throughout the study area, while other fault sets show contrasts between the tectonic domains. The expression of each fault group among lineaments orientation in each terrain was analysed as well, in order to characterize its frequency and spatial distribution. Lineaments distribution analysis have shown interesting geometric relations between inherited structural framework, tectonic suture, crustal weakness zones and preferential fracturing orientation, leading to partitioning in brittle structural domains
