Having as its main objective the relationship between communication and the urban space, the current work talks about the neighborhood of Marechal Hermes, located in the north zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It has as a starting point the approach of the cultural history to reflect on the cities, as Sandra Pesavento proposes, trying to observe the city in its three dimensions: materiality, sociability and sensitivity. The first aspect gives relevance to the fact that Marechal Hermes is a hundred-year-old place, with a unique morphology part of its design and architecture is still there, in spite of its users interference. Therefore it accumulates different codes, keeping a memory of multiple times and accounts. The sociability of the neighborhood manifests itself in the practice of its urban occupation and in the daily intimacy that is established by its inhabitants family, friendship and neighborly ties but also in the interaction found in the social networks. There is a plot of consonant and dissonant voices, that does not exclude conflicts and tensions, but always has as its main focus the community. Those nets of relationships complement themselves with the images shown by the movie industry and TV, for the spot has been a sought after source of material by the audiovisual industry, as in films, soap operas and TV series. Those images, broadcast by the existing midia and consumed in a very peculiar way by its dwellers, are shared by everyone and give legitimate value to the place, enhancing its materiality and its spirit. With an inside look, and always searching for its people's perspective, this work shows, past and present, an instant photograph of Marechal Hermes that probes into a future of new dreams
