This work consists of the integral translation into Portuguese, provided with introduction and commentary notes, of the work David Hume über den Glauben oder Idealismus und Realismus. Ein Gespräch (David Hume on Belief or Idealism and Realism, a Dialogue), by the German philosopher Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi (1743-1819), originally published in 1787, as well of the Vorrede, zugleich Einleitung in des Verfassers sämmtliche philosophische Schriften (Preface, and also an introduction to the author's collected philosophical writings), which accompanied the second edition of the text of 1815. The translation was made from the text established by the historical-critical edition of the author's writings and discriminates all relevant divergences found between the two editions. The introduction presents Jacobi's dialogue as, on the one hand, the crowning of Pantheismusstreit, the pantheism controversy, which constitutes a turning point in Spinoza's reception in German philosophy, but also, on the other hand, the first relevant reaction against Kantian transcendental idealism, to which Jacobi opposes his defense of a realistic epistemology and the need for an immediate dimension of knowledge.
