This work, entitled Looks on the streets of Jardim 25 de Agosto: the dialogue between local history and the teaching of History for the final years of Elementary School, proposes the use of the local approach to teaching History in the final years of the Elementary School. It seeks, based on the problematization of the present official curriculum in Brazil, the BNCC, to value local history as a possible way to teach history, based on the mobilization of local elements that shape the daily lives of students. Furthermore, local history has elements capable of making History classes more pleasant, as it proposes actions that move away from "banking education", in which students are configured to receive only the information that must be accumulated for evaluative purposes. Considering these factors, the present research seeks to develop a reflection that understands students as historical subjects, from the moment they actively participate in the suggested pedagogical proposals and, in our case, they involve the very place where they live daily, whether studying, residing or in leisure time. In this way, students become knowledge builders and, together with their teachers, do what we recognize as school history knowledge. Besides, the local history offers bases for reflections on the students’ identity construction and subsidies for the development of heritage education. Furthermore all this theoretical discussion, this research brings as a didactic-pedagogical proposition a booklet aimed at History teachers called The possibilities of telling the story of Jardim 25 de Agosto - a local guide, divided into seven didactic activities, becoming a suggestion of work in which the local history is seen as a powerful bias to teach History from the mobilization of the factors that integrate the locality in which its students are inserted. In this case, such activities present in the guide are based on the school community that integrates the State College Professor José de Souza Herdy, located in the Jardim 25 de Agosto neighborhood, belonging to the 1st District of the city of Duque de Caxias. However, its use can be made by any pedagogical initiative that uses local history as a form of knowledge capable of collaborating with the teaching of History.
