O ensino do Muaythai no estado do Rio de Janeiro: a perspectiva dos professores

Resumo: This article presents the findings of a comprehensive analysis on the teaching of Muay Thai in various settings and contexts within the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Materials and methods: The study is divided into two distinct parts, with the first chapter consisting of a scoping review that encompassed a wide range of academic databases and sources. The research spanned across platforms such as LILACS, PubMed, MEDLINE – Bireme, SCOPUS, Scielo, the Catalog of Theses and Dissertations from the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), Google Scholar, and EBSCO. Articles published in scientific journals, as well as dissertations and theses exclusively related to Muay Thai in the field of Physical Education, available in digital format and in the Portuguese language, within the temporal scope of 2011 to 2020, were considered. The search terms employed included "Muay Thai," "Muay-Thai," "Muaythai," and "Thai Boxing. "The second part of the dissertation involved an exploratory study where semi-structured interviews were conducted with Muay Thai leaders and instructors in Brazil. The selection of interviewees followed Becker's Snowball Sampling principle (1999). Transcripts of the interviews were subjected to content analysis, resulting in the identification of categories and subcategories. The Iramuteq software was used for quantitative analysis, with a significance level set at 0.05. Results: The analysis of 22 selected studies revealed that the "Biodynamics" subcategory prevailed, representing 52% of the total analyzed, in comparison to the subareas of "Sociocultural," which accounted for 36%, and "Pedagogical," with only 12%. Furthermore, the results indicated a prevalence of quantitative research methods in contrast to qualitative and mixed methods. The interviews with Muay Thai instructors led to the identification of five key categories, namely: 1) Teacher Training, 2) Teaching Style and Instructor Performance in Their Classes, 3) Teaching Environment and Student Relations, 4) Lesson Planning, and 5) Student Profiles. Additionally, the "Lesson Planning" category was further divided into three subclasses: 1) Generally Planned, 2) Consciously Planned, and 3) Planning Depends on the Athlete. Conclusion: This dissertation sheds light on the scarcity of research concerning the teaching of Muay Thai, thereby hindering the understanding of sociocultural changes within the sport in Brazil and their pedagogical implications. The analysis revealed distinct characteristics, including the significance of lesson planning and the need for future investigations to gain a deeper understanding of how instructors teach Muay Thai in the region

Materiais e Métodos: A dissertação está estruturada em dois estudos. O primeiro capítulo consiste em uma revisão de escopo. A pesquisa abrangeu diversas plataformas, incluindo LILACS, PubMed, MEDLINE – Bireme, SCOPUS, Scielo, o Catálogo de Teses e Dissertações da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES), Google Acadêmico e EBSCO. Foram considerados artigos publicados em periódicos científicos, dissertações e teses exclusivamente relacionados ao Muaythai na área de Educação Física, disponíveis em formato digital e em língua portuguesa, com um recorte temporal de 2011 a 2020. Para a busca, foram selecionados os seguintes termos: Muaythai, Muay Thai, Muay-Thai e Boxe Tailandês. O segundo estudo da dissertação envolveu uma pesquisa exploratória. Nessa fase, um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturado foi aplicado a dirigentes e professores de Muaythai no Brasil. A amostra foi composta seguindo o princípio da Bola de Neve de Becker (1999). As entrevistas foram transcritas e submetidas à análise de conteúdo, resultando na identificação de categorias e subcategorias. O software Iramuteq foi utilizado para a análise quantitativa. O nível de significância adotado foi de 0,05. Resultados: A análise dos 22 estudos selecionados revelou que a subcategoria "Biodinâmica" predominou, representando 52% do total analisado, em comparação com as subáreas "Sociocultural," com 36%, e “Pedagógica," com apenas 12%. Além disso, os resultados apontaram uma prevalência de métodos quantitativos em relação aos qualitativos e mistos. As entrevistas conduzidas com os professores levaram à definição de cinco classes, nomeadas como: 1) Formação de Professores, 2) Estilo de Ensino e Atuação dos Professores em Suas Aulas, 3) Local de Atuação e Relacionamento com os Alunos, 4) Planejamento e 5) Perfil dos Alunos. Além disso, a categoria “Planejamento" foi desdobrada em mais três classes: 1) Geralmente Há Planejamento, 2) Planejamento Consciente e 3) Há Planejamento a Depender do Atleta. Conclusão: Esta dissertação destaca a carência de pesquisas sobre o ensino do Muaythai, o que dificulta a compreensão das mudanças socioculturais da modalidade esportiva no Brasil e suas implicações pedagógicas.
