As orações causais entre o tradicional e o funcionalismo nas crônicas da Belle Époque carioca: da gramática ao contexto social, pragmático e discursivo

This research aims to study the causal sentences introduced by conjunctions and analyzed from a perspective of combination between Traditional Grammar and Functional Linguistics. For this, a corpus with 81 chronicles was written by João do Rio and Lima Barreto, in the period called Belle Époque carioca . Among the objectives of the dissertation are the markings of types and tokens, the ordering of causal clauses, the stray structures of the addendum type (afterthoughs) and the types of speech employed (Direct Speech, Indirect Speech or Free Indirect Speech). The choice of conjunctions and conjunctive phrases was made from the occurrences presented by Rocha Lima (2018), Cunha & Cintra (2016), Bechara (2016), Azeredo (2018), Garcia (2010), Perini (2016) Abreu (2018 ), Castilho (2010), Neves (2018), Braga and Paiva (2019), mixing authors ranging from a more traditional continuum to those who fit in as functionalists. Since Functionalism began from the Prague Linguistic Circle in 1926, studies on texts published in contemporary or earlier periods of this new stream of linguistic inquiry are rare. Thus, studying them today, based on what is already evolution and discoveries in Linguistics, is necessary so that there are not only records of more recent descriptions and analysis of the corpus
