The thesis analyzes the relationship between the reelections of mayors of the Mato Grosso municipalities (in the 2004 and 2008 elections) and the economic growth that occurred in the state in the 2000s. As most academic studies, which deal with mayors' reelections, adopt as a geographic object of the municipalities of Brazilian capitals, this thesis aimed to investigate the reelections that occurred in municipalities in the interior of the country, in order to cover the existing empirical gap. This research pursues the identification of a possible correlation between independent and dependent variables: the Gross Domestic Product and the number of inhabitants of the municipalities with the reelections of mayors. The methodologies used to carry out the study include the theoretical-bibliographic research, consolidated data collection on the municipal elections of 2004 and 2008 in the state of Mato Grosso, and the accomplishment of a logistic analysis through the logistic regression, in addition to the Student's t-Test, which had the role of verifying the validation of the hypothesis. The results show that when the municipal GDP variable is used in isolation, the hypothesis is rejected, but when this variable is associated with the second independent variable (the number of inhabitants), the result indicates that there is a relational tendency between the variables (X) and (Y), which suggests that there being an increase in the number of independent variables this relational predisposition tends to consolidate.
