To make a humanistic analysis of geography is to examine the way the individual becomes aware of what he is through the places lived in the daily life and imbued with multiple meanings that permeate the fields of dreams, imagination, ideologies, symbolization, meaning, emotion and individual and collective experiences. That being said, in the scope of space organization, cemeteries act as artifacts of significant relevance and susceptible to various analyzes and interpretations. In fact, the local cemeteries present vivid and vibrant geographies. Marks made by men, the cemetery reflect the social, cultural, religious and identitary structure of the communities that created them, being impregnated with values and meanings, thus composing a rich and dense cultural framework and of experiences. More than that, the cemetery have particularities and singularities, since they accommodate morphologies, architectural styles and different meanings. In other words, they are singular points in the cities space and, at the same time, their internal spaces compose unique cities with their streets, monuments and tombs. In these terms, the thesis aims to explore/translate the Cemitério da Consolação, located in the city of São Paulo. We intend to approach and analyze its construction process, including its re-signification over time. Through this, the contents of social and symbolic practices will be revealed, besides the use of this cemetery for tourism, entertainment and education. Therefore, the research becomes relevant because it includes the famous fields of the dead, a subject neglected by the brazilian geographic analyzes, intending to contribute for other researchers to embark on this rich, complex subject full of symbolism and meanings.
