It is a study that has as object the social representations of nurses and doctors of the sexual and reproductive health field over the lesbian woman. The objectives include: describing the contents of the social representations of nurses and doctors of the sexual and reproductive health field, about lesbians; identify the specifics of the sexual and reproductive health recognized by professionals, among lesbians; describing the difficulties encountered by nurses and doctors, in the daily care practices to sexual and reproductive health of lesbians; discussing the influence of social representations of nurses and doctors about their care practices to sexual and reproductive health of lesbians. The research is of a qualitative nature. The theoretical framework is supported by the Theory of Symbolic Power and the theoretical and methodological framework in Social Representation Theory. The participant social group involved 24 nurses and 21 doctors acting in primary care, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Data were collected from March to September 2014. The data collection instrument was the semi-structured interview and the statements analyzed in the light of thematic-categorical content analysis with the aid of NVivo software. The results indicate that the representation of the social group about the lesbian woman is permeated with elements of the representation of homosexuality, suggesting that this is a non-autonomous representation. Facing the findings, analyzes and discussions woven along the study allowed us to confirm the theoretical assumption and affirm the thesis that the social representations of nurses and doctors from the sexual and reproductive health field, about lesbians, have a strongly normative content with significant emotional charge, which operates as a substrate for symbolic violence in care, contributing to the process of exclusion of these women, the field of health. Lesbians are classified by health professionals as male or female. The male lesbian is rooted in a network of meanings with strong negative connotation and female lesbians are better accepted to the extent that less break with social norms.
