Representação e identidade do Gaúcho: “A Exposição do Centenário Farroupilha”

The main objective of the work was to understand how the Farroupilha Revolutionary Centennial Exhibition, held in Porto Alegre, in 1935, served as an attempt to construct a more favorable discourse on rags, often accused of separatists, since the Farroupilha Revolution (1835- 1845), considered as the founding myth of this society. As a research methodology, we carried out the reading and critique of the works produced in academic circles, such as monographs and articles, and the books that dealt with the construction of this Rio Grande identity, which later became known as the Gaucho. After completing this path, it was time to research how the media of the time treated the Farroupilha Centenary Exhibition. Thus, we analyzed the editions of the Diário de Notícias and Correio do Povo of September 1935 that highlighted the event and the valorization of the ideals of the Farroupilha Revolution. At the end, we conclude that Exposition is still a subject little studied in the Brazilian and Brazilian historiography, but we confirm our understanding that the event was a reaffirmation of the speech that understands the Farroupilha Revolution as the most important episode in the history of Rio Grande do Sul and the Exposition would be the embryo of the Week Farroupilha celebrated annually since 1988.
