The insertion of the psychologist in the health field has grown considerably at the national level, especially in the last two decades. It is concentrated there, currently, the greater number of places of public calls for psychologists, as well as an expansion of opportunities in the private network. This is a rather broad, including primary care (health posts, Health Program Family, etc.), assistance to the demands for mental health (community mental health services, network and outpatient psychiatric hospitals), and institutes, specialized hospitals and general hospitals (HGs). Involved in the process of structuring the field of health psychology is marked by plurality of roles, demands and stories, especially with regard to the context of HG, where the specificity of psychology to this day remains somewhat enigmatic. The scarcity of data on the input of psychologists in HGs in Rio de Janeiro showed the way that our search should take. Thus, the object of this thesis is to discuss some of the various doings of the psychologist in HG. To this end, we chose a path that inevitably led to a historical perspective. In search of evidence that could tell when and how psychology became a specialist in this general hospitals, officials sought pioneered this contract, those who participated actively in the construction of the space as a place of psychology in health. Interviews were conducted with five characters in this story in the context of the state, psychologists who, each in its own hospital and at a given moment in history, played a decisive role for psychology to become a legitimate specialty in this scenario. We also had as source some reports of backstage conversations and visits to HGs and even the experience of the author of this thesis as a psychologist attached to the Secretaria Estadual de Saúde e Defesa Civil do Rio de Janeiro (SESDEC/RJ). We note that the history of psychology in HG in Rio de Janeiro is significantly new, formalized in 1990 with the initial tender to fill vacancies for psychologists in HGs linked to SES / RJ (current SESDEC). Other invitations extended teams and setting up a routine in which the slogan has become the attention to psychosocial risk. Up to this point, however, many battles were fought: between psychologists and other staff, including psychologists and the new directions of their health facilities, among psychologists and psychologists statutory providers, including psychologists and psychology itself. Our contract favors the narrative of these characters, the stories they told, that helped us in the past and present composition of psychology at GH in Rio de Janeiro. These are memories that tell of the difficulties and victories of each of these moments, in an attempt to define the almost indefinable place of psychology in HG. Our work aims to build one of the possible maps that field, aiming thereby providing support for psychologists to expand their styles and thought collectives in favor of a professional and ethical responsibility.
