In the1920 s, A Literary Page of Alagoas s Newspaper became a pioneer in the field of writing. And this pioneering is based on fostering discussion and popularization of poetry and related things. This Page was edited by the poet Pedro Lobão Filho and it was published in the most popular newspaper at that time Alagoas s Newspaper. Its city, Maceió, was then in touch with brandnew ideas such as the Brazilian Modernism and the so-called Northeast Regionalism. Such situation could not be better for the literary work of new authors such as Graciliano Ramos, Jorge de Lima, Aurélio Buarque de Holanda, among others. In other words, such authors work were based on the same aesthetic ideas that were taking place in São Paulo, the city of Brazilian Modernism. This influence was also fundamental for the next three generation of writers from Maceió. Instead of putting forward the formalist Brazilian traditional, the purpose of such writers was to be updated with the modernist writing style. Therefore poetry and everyday life got closer and closer for such writers, which brought the reader closer to the writer there was no longer a gap between them. Literature was no longer a genre in which this or that writer would get away from life. Quite the opposite: it turned into a way of life done throughout the writer s writing style. Thus this kind of writer is understood as someone who is able to voice a particular understading of the world. This new relationship between writer and literature in Alagoas, which started because of influence of the paulista modernist movement, becomes more and more independent, leading scholars to call it Northeast Regionalism
