Conserving and preserving the last biomes is not an easy task, so in Brazil the government has been creating, more and more, Nature Conservation Units or protected áreas with intent to mitigating potential risks caused by anthropic activities that threaten the conservation of biodiversity. The conservation units aim at the maintenance of biological diversity and the preservation of numerous existing species. Supported by Brazilian Law 9,985 / 2000, the areas around the Conservation Units in Brazil are known as the buffer zone and protect the Unit, not allowing the impacts to advance towards it. Therefore, this work aims to identify, through the geoindicators analysis by Geographic Information System (GIS), the propitious areas to be used in the delimitation of a new buffer zone of the Ibitipoca State Park. The Ibitipoca State Park is a Conservation Unit that was created in 1973 and is located in the municipalities of Lima Duarte and Santa Rita de Ibitipoca in the state of Minas Gerais. Its buffer zone was created by the management plan in 2006, and has an area of 100.41 km², belongs to the municipalities of Lima Duarte, Santa Rita de Ibitipoca and Bias Fortes. This management plan, as well as the current buffer zone, are outdated and need to be redrawn. Thus, we used the Vulnerability-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (VPEIR) analysis model, based on the work of FIDÉLIS et al. (2015), to subsidize the selection of geoindicators and the definition of a new buffer zone. Among the geoindicators chosen for the present study are: slope, occupancy sensitivity, plant loss, forest fragments, eucalyptus plantation, environmental fragility and geotourist and ecotourist attractions. The procedures adopted in the accomplishment of the work were: the selection of geoindicators, elaboration and overlap of the maps (through GIS) and analysis of the results. One of the main results obtained, by the present research, was the map of the areas propitious to the new buffer zone of the Ibitipoca State Park, which points out the areas that need to be within ZA classified according to the hydrographic basins of each municipality. In addition,the work also presents the areas that suffered from the loss of vegetation, increased exploration of the land, the areas with more environmental fragility surrounding the conservation units and and the demarcation of permanent preservation areas in the study area. It is expected that the methodology adopted will serve as a model for the delimitation of buffer zones for other parks and assist the managers of the Ibitipoca State Park in decision-making and effective management of the surroundings of the conservation unit.
