This dissertation arose from the questions raised through my experience as a psychologist at the Instituto Nacional do Câncer na Unidade de Cuidados Paliativos. This work aims to discuss the contributions of psychoanalysis and praxis of the analyst in a hospital of exclusive oncological palliative care. From the survey and study of the bibliographic reference and the clinical-institutional record in the field diary, the discursive differences between the ethics of psychoanalysis and the philosophy of palliative care were analyzed; the possible effects of the incidence of palliative care discourse on the agents involved in the process and the analysis of clinical fragments collected under transfer have been considered, was included the question on the importance of listening that considers the subject in a palliative care unit. For the development of the question studied I traced from Foucault and Canguilhem a history on the emergence of modern medicine and its relationship with the birth of palliative care. With Menezes and other contemporary authors of palliative care theory, I discussed death in contemporaneity, the construction of the Paliactivist ideology, and the concept of "good death". Then, from Freud’s work, from Lacan’s teaching and from contemporary authors of psychoanalytic theory, I approach the discursive differences between palliative care, science, psychology and psychoanalysis.
