Serviço social e educação: o exercício profissional dos assistentes sociais em escolas públicas de favelas

This study entered in the search line and Social Issues Democracy Program Graduate in Social Work from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), articulated with Octavio Ianni Studies Center and the Center for Studies and Popular Searches on Spaces of (REDES da Maré) - performs an analysis of the professional practice of 42 social workers who work in the public schools of the public elementary school of the City of Rio de Janeiro. Whereas schools in slums, distinct from other public schools in the "asphalt", have characteristics that incorporating the stigmas and stereotypes that mark these territories, demand new needs, new ways of understanding and intervention of social subjects in the public school, the study also proposes to analyze conceptually slums and their representations. For both analyzes the current contours of basic education, especially primary education, where social workers are included working in the Municipal Education. Emphasizing the historical construction of vocational integration of social workers in Brazilian school universe, the expansion is problematized this request within the framework of the first decade of this century. The multiple contradictions that mark spaces socio-occupational schools to impose their social inclusion qualified its legitimacy, rethink public school construction and intervention projects that advance the achievement of individual assistance to students and their families. Considering the pedagogical dimension inherent in professional practice, the construction of these spaces becomes an assignment to be developed by the social worker who requires re-thinking how professional practice occurs in these spaces. To that end, we conducted a data collection with 42 professional where to achieve the proposed objectives was researched profile of these professionals, academic background, location and working conditions, work experience, professional practice issues, about the dimensions of work professional, about school, about the relationship with the community and the environment, and on the involvement of social workers in spaces of political organization.
