Dando voz aos homens: repercussões do viver com incontinência urinária e a prática sexual

This is a study whose object of investigation is the correlation between men with urinary incontinence and sexual practice. Having as general objective: To understand the repercussion and the confrontation of urinary incontinence in the sexual practices of men and as specific objectives: To identify the perception of the man with urinary incontinence about his sexual practice and to analyze the repercussions and the confrontation of urinary incontinence in the sexual men. Descriptive study and qualitative approach, with eighteen men with urinary incontinence who were in consultation at the specialized care clinic for people with voiding dysfunction, in a polyclinic of a public university in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The semi-structured interview was used as a data collection instrument and, for data analysis, the content analysis technique was applied. Through the analysis of the data, it was defined by two categories: The interrelation between being a man and living with urinary incontinence and Repercussions of urinary incontinence in men and sexual practice. The results show social isolation, emotional changes and changes in the sexual practices of men with urinary incontinence. Demonstrated through feelings of discomfort, discomfort and embarrassment due to urinary incontinence related to the practice of daily activities, and dissatisfaction with sexual activity. Compromising the mental health and well-being of men, as it has an impact on masculinity, related to feelings of low self-esteem, disability and frustrations. It is concluded that the difficulties experienced by men with urinary incontinence, involve social, economic, professional, emotional and sexual aspects. The unveiling of these difficulties allows us to understand that men's health in the context of health promotion and disease prevention, is a challenge that includes many and different facets, in which nursing has an essential role.
