The following dissertation consiste of a historiographical research about the process which is entitled evangelical investment by the Psychology in Brazil. This process comprises the appropriation of psychological theories and practices by part of the protestant/evangelical religious field. The link between Psychology and Religious Studies is evident especially in Theological Seminaries supported by Evangelical churches where it is possible to find courses related to Psychology of Religion, Psychological Counseling, Educational Psychology, etc. With this in mind, we reflected upon the period and the historical and cultural conditions which contributed to the development of such courses in Seminary curricula. Therefore, this work aims at investigating which reasons, conditions, and institucional objectives were present at the time Psychology was included as part of the curriculum at the Brazilian Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Seminário Teológico Batista do Sul, in Portuguese - STBSB), located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The period investigated ranges from the 1950s to 1990s. The research was based on bibliographical material and interviews with members of the alumni and former professors of the STBSB. Courses in Psychology are present in the Seminary curriculum since the 1950s. At the same time, some psychological tests started to be given in order to analyze applicants and check their aptitude. From the 1970s on, new courses in Psychology were included in the curriculum. Those courses were taught by professors that held degrees from Psychology Graduate Programs in Seminaries in the U.S.A.. There they had the opportunity to know the Pastoral Counseling. This field influenced the creation of the Pastoral Clinic Institute (Instituto de Clínica Pastoral, in Portuguese), a specialization course that would train pastoral counselors and chaplains at STBSB. The purpose of teaching Psychology in the Southern Baptist Seminary was to better equip the future pastors in their ecclesiastical work. Nevertheless, those courses inspired some students to major in Psychology. Moreover, the appropriation was in consonance with a broader Brazilian context; Psychology was included as part of curricula in different undergraduate courses; the psycho-technical and the hegemonic psychometric model in the 1950s and 1960s; and, finally, the psychotherapy model, which becomes hegemonic from the 1970s on
